Is soluble coffee good for your health?

Instant coffee is a product that offers practical advantages, among which its rapid preparation stands out, is cheaper and has a longer shelf life. However, being a highly processed product has some aspects that are harmful to health, know the details and make the best decisions for your health.
Coffee is one of the most popular beverages, so much that 400 billion cups are consumed daily worldwide.
The soluble coffee also called instant or coffee glass is a drink derived from the grain of traditional coffee, it is important to clarify that this presentation is very different from the ground coffee or powder. This product is characterized by being obtained through two different processes: spray drying and lyophilization, which we will discuss later. However, to obtain the final result of this product and obtain its practical qualities, the techniques by which it is submitted make it a highly processed product and unfortunately, this makes it harmful to health.

One of the great disadvantages is that soluble coffee does not provide the virtues that are related to the consumption of fresh coffee, among the great losses are the absence of antioxidants. Another aspect that makes it harmful is that it is a product to which added sugars are added, so it becomes risky for those people who have to control their blood glucose levels.

To obtain the dry coffee extract and have the quality to be able to dissolve in water, two processes are performed that modify the organoleptic properties of coffee, it all starts with the atomization through which the brewed coffee is produced, from its mode in the same way it is prepared at home. Subsequently, it goes through a process of fine sprays with hot water to remove all the liquid that is in the coffee particles. The second step is the lyophilization process, which is the freezing coffee to extract what is left of the water. The latter is the sublimation process, in which it is subjected to pressure and very low temperatures, to extract coffee particles.

An interesting fact about the manufacturing process to produce soluble coffee is that it was created and patented in 1937 by Nestlé, it is worth mentioning that at this time it was a product that reflected high technology and innovation, however over time they have been proven its harmful effects on health, also the final drink has nothing to do with a real cup of coffee.

Among the main effects of its consumption, it has been found that due to its high degree of processing it releases compounds that can be carcinogenic, the most dangerous is the presence in a substance called acrylamide that increases the risk of cancer and can cause damage nerve. Also being a processed product involves the addition of chemicals, additives and due to this, the natural grains are significantly diminished, therefore their properties as are their great aromatic qualities and all the benefits of ground coffee.

In conclusion, consuming soluble coffee from time to time does not mean a great health risk, however, it is important to understand that we are not drinking real coffee.
