The series that gave a twist to the genre of superheroes should be back in 2020. Here we tell you all the details of this Amazon Prime Video production.

The superhero genre has a life beyond Marvel, and Amazon Prime Video can attest to the success of The Boys, the series that premiered in 2019 on its platform and that in 2020 will have its second part.

The Boys is a television adaptation of the comic written by Garth Ennis ( Preache r, Hellblazer, Hitman ), an author recognized for placing his characters in the limits of ethics and morals. The illustrations are in charge of Darrick Robertson ( Transmetropolitan).

If you have not seen this series, we summarize your premise without spoilers: the superheroes are among us, but many have been corrupted. A group called The Seven brings together the most perverse and to counteract the power of these false and dangerous idols, the CIA creates The Boys, a group of humans with powers they have not discovered or must polish.

The first season of the series, which premiered on July 26, 2019, focused on Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and the new recruit for The Boys, Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid). Both suffered irreparable losses, which unites them, in a strange almost paternal filial relationship.

Some will find similarities between  The Boys and  Watchmen. However, the work of Garth Ennis and Darrick Robertson is more violent, politically incorrect, with very twisted humor and a great sign of distinction: a lot, but a lot of blood.

As usual with any adaptation, the first season of The Boys left a very good taste, but also many criticisms for the absence of some characters that are important in the comic. This probably opens the door for the second season: new heroes, villains, and more gore.

Behind  The Boys are three masterminds: Eric Kripke (Supernatural); Evan Goldberg ( Preacher ) and the famous actor, producer and writer Seth Rogen  (This is the End ). With those names and the works they have worked on, you can only expect the return to be bigger, in every way.

Rogen and Kripke announced the second season, during the activities of Comic-Con 2019  this year. Among the novelties, it was slipped that actress Aya Cash ( You're the Worst ) would play a superhero named Stormfront.

Stormfront, in the original story, is a Neo-Nazi man who believes he is the reincarnation of a Viking, but is actually the result of a super-soldier experiment, as happened to Captain America. Recall that in this series, The Seven represents the handsome face of famous characters: Homelander (Superman), Translucent (the Invisible Man), Black Noir (Batman), Deep (Aquaman), A-Train (Flash) and Queen Maeve (Wonder Woman)

Similarly, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kripke talked about the second season and referred to Terror, Billy Butcher's dog in the comic.

"We feel, as writers, that fans need it. We had to confront the situation and have an annoying episode to record with the dog, and then, in the end, the dog will return to the safe and comfortable place where he has been for the rest of the series. But he leaves the retreat for one more mission with Butcher, so we can at least have Butcher with Terror in a great episode, "said the showrunner.

He also mentioned Jack de Jupiter, one of the members of The Seven that so far has not appeared. While he would not enter as a new character, he could make a cameo.  On the powers of Stormfront, he described it as a combination of Thor and Shazam.

In addition, it is likely that in the new installment, Rogen is facing the cameras.

Cast confirmed

The series, as we have said, presents two sides and they would continue fighting in a second part.

The Boys is composed of Hughie (Jack Quaid), Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon), and The Female (Karen Fukuhara). Simon Pegg has a cameo as Hughie's father.

The Seven (the seven) are Homelander (Antony Starr), Annie January (Erin Moriarty), Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), The Deep (Chace Crawford) and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell ). In the second part, Stormfront (Aya Cash) will join. Madelyn Stillwell (Elisabeth Shue) is the brain of the Vought organization, enemy of the CIA, and owner of the superheroes.

However, on October 7, Kripke published a mysterious tweet that could give clues about a new character: Crimson Countess.

Trailer, images and release date

A week before the premiere of the series, Amazon renewed The Boys for a second installment and on November 15 the first teaser of the saga was released, on the Twitter account of the series.

In the preview, we can see part of the story of The Homelander (The Patriot), and the problems he faced as a child, during one of the sessions with Dr. Vogelbaum.

The scene takes place in 1994. In this one, the preteen superhero ends the life of a tutor during an interrogation, something that seems to have been done with others as understood in the dialogue. Dr. Vogelbaum believes that the child suffers "isolation-induced depression", but a smile from the child makes us understand that he really understands everything that is happening.
